CWSA Living Labs
Living Labs Concept

The concept of a Living Lab is to use the unique resources and opportunities of Purdue as a "lab" to develop, deploy, and test new wireless applications and the technologies that enable them. A Living Lab is a large-scale testbed with real users.

Working with the Vertically Integrated Projects program, CWSA is uniquely capable of performing long-term research on large-scale applications in real-world situations. The Center's broad base of inter-disciplinary researchers enables cross-layer design and implementation to solve complex problems. CWSA has currently partnered with organizations such as IT@P and Purdue Athletics for the e-Stadium project, and with the Indiana Department of Transportation for the e-Transportation project.

Impacts of Living Labs
  • Better understanding of how technologies integrate and behave in large-scale settings.
  • Better understanding of how users adopt new technologies and how they use them.
  • Development of innovative solutions that take full advantage of the network and the wireless device capabilities.
  • Extensive measurement campaigns on traffic, user-behavior, mobility, and security.
